How do I get my toddler to stay in his big boy bed and go to sleep on his own?
My son is 2 1/2. For the first 3 nights we said goodnight after the bedtime routine and left the room only to have him run out giggling. Each time we would put him back in bed and say goodnight. He'd run back out laughing. This went on for 3 hrs each night. Since then I sit in the room while he goes to sleep. This takes 30 min to 1 hour of sitting in the dark with him, but he does stay in bed. He also wakes up around 3 am and wont go back down unless I go sit in the room with him. Then he's up around 5:30 or 6 at my bedside wanting to go downstairs.
I wonder, did he stay in his bed the entire night when you kept putting him back in bed and saying goodnight? If so, I'd stick to that routine instead of sitting in there with him. It will eventually work to where you won't have to do it as much. It will just take a lot of patience. Now if he is getting up throughout the night no matter what, I'm not really sure, and that could get really difficult having to keep putting him back in bed for another 3 hrs.... but, you could always try it, and maybe he'd fall asleep faster since it's later at night?
Also, maybe try to cut like 5-10 minutes off his naps during the day so he'll sleep more at night?
Those are just a few ideas... I will have this to look forward in another year or so myself lol. Right now he's 13 months, and does okay-but he's in his crib that he loves! So I dunno what will happen once we change beds.
Goodluck!
Baby Nursery Bedding Considerations For New Parents - Here's Where To Start
As the parent of a newborn child, or expectant parents, one of your major concerns is decorating and furnishing your baby's nursery. There is such a wide array of choices when it comes to all matters of the nursery, including but not limited to, baby nursery bedding patterns and fabrics, crib materials, safety concerns, your nursery budget, and much more. But it's often easy for new parents to become intimidated by all these considerations.
To address this issue, It's wise to pre-plan your nursery well in advance of your delivery so you can have a beautiful, fully furnished and decorated home for your child when it's time to come home. This will significantly reduce post-partem stress, so you can take it easy and make a fast recovery. But above all, make sure your baby nursery is a safe abode for your newborn. Colors, fabrics, and expense all take a distant backseat when it comes to important baby nursery considerations.
Given all of the above, lets focus on baby nursery bedding for now, since that is in direct contact with your child's skin and requires the most attention. There are certainly way more nursery bedding choices these days than there used to be. You can choose organically grown fabrics (we recommend 385 thread count), regular fabrics, bedding for boys, girls, neutral - the choices can go on and on. As mentioned above, the most important consideration is safety, followed by budget and fabric colors, making sure the bedding set matches and/or compliments the rest of the nursery. Make sure your bedding wasn't coated with formaldehyde, or any other chemicals that may cause skin irritation or allergies and respiratory issues. This is very common unfortunately. We recommend organic bedding sets, as the fabrics are constructed of chemical free cottons, wools, or even a bamboo and cotton blend.
Your budget is the next most important consideration. With the current economic situation, you may be inclined to tighten your financial belt a little bit, but when it comes to the health and safety of your newborn, few things rival the importance of these considerations. Nursery furniture and decor can vary widely in price as you may imagine. For instance cribs and bassinets can reach upwards of $3,000 or more. On top of that you'll be required to budget for pillows, sheets, bumper pads, blankets, along with any extras you may consider, such as a diaper stacker, mobile, lamp shade and valance. Bassinets are designed with wooden inlay and are for motorized to rock your child to sleep while allowing your to rest from your rocking and nurturing duties.
As for the style and color of the accessories, we feel this is a very personal choice. However, a combination of playfulness and sophistication is what most new parents are after. After all, your child probably won't care much about his or her surroundings until after one or two years. So most new parents are largely concerned about impressing friends and family with the nursery. We recommend a colorful palette of neutral colors with accents in red, aqua, brown, green, and of course blues and pinks.
